Twelfth Day & Maya Youssef: New Meetings

May 28, 2016 @ 9:25 pm - 11:10 pm

Twelfth Day are a stunning Scottish duo – they both sing, Esther Swift plays all kinds of harps and Catriona Price is a thrilling fiddler and if you throw in a handful of grit and guts, and add their great sense of humour, you’re pretty much there. Syrian musician Maya Youssef plays the kanun, a gorgeous lyrical instrument that’s part of the zither family, and Twelfth Day have invited Maya to join them for what promises to be a sublime climax to the New Meetings programme.

‘21st century art music for trad fans and purveyors of folk and classically-influenced slightly-weirdness of their own devising’ – fRoots

‘Subtle and delicate, impressively spooky, they have created an atmospheric, eerie style in which their fine harmony vocals are matched against their subtle and delicate playing to gently unnerving effect.’ – Guardian
