The Secret War with Max Hastings in Bath

International best-selling historian Max Hastings returns to Bath to discuss his latest work: The Secret War: Spies, Ciphers and Guerrillas 1939-45.

Much has been written about the soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Second World War but in The Secret War Hastings examines the successes and failures of the men and women who may never have fired a weapon on the battlefield, but whose efforts vastly influenced the conflict.

In a similar style to his earlier books, The Secret War draws upon original research and ranges over an international spectrum bringing together the British, American, German, Russian and Japanese histories. Combining strategic analysis with startling individual stories of daring, deception and hardship, The Secret War confirms Hasting’s reputation as one of the greatest historians of our time.
