Susan Tomes is an incredibly accomplished musician. First woman to study music at King’s College, Cambridge, formerly the pianist of Domus, and one of the world’s leading piano trios – the Florestan Trio, and winner of the Cobbett Medal for distinguished services to chamber music in 2013. Her new book Sleeping in Temples is an exploration of what it means to be a musician, and why music has such an important role in many of our lives.
Tome explores how music awakens and creates memories, what ‘interpretation’ really means, the effects of playing by memory, as well as discussing some of the problems posed by being a classical musician in today’s society.
Susan is a hugely energetic and engaging figure – a real performer in speaking as well as playing. This is an unmissable evening for anyone with a passion for music.
