Something of the night – with Musicke in the Ayre

A concert of songs to the lute that explore the delights (as well as the despair) that the dark of night brings, illuminated by musical gems from the early Baroque.
Sopranos Alysha Paterson and Jane Hunt will be accompanied on lute by Din Ghani in English, French and Italian songs in a wide range of styles from lute songs by Dowland to operatic arias by Handel and Carissimi, as well as airs from the court of Louis XIV.
This opens Musicke in the Ayre’s 2025 season of concerts at St Mary’s Bathwick. Founded by Din in 2011 to explore the repertoire for voice and lute from the 16th/17th centuries, the group has given over 175 performances across the country and on the Continent, each involving Din with one to four singers from a widespread stable of singers. Jane is well-known to local audiences; she is joined by London-based Alysha, who trained at Trinity Laban in Greenwich, and is currently a member of the choir at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Refreshment available before and after the hour-long concert.
