Sheelanagig, Tyn Daga, Jez Hellard and the Djukella Orchestra

August 15, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

£14 – £16

Sheelanagig

Sheelanagig deliver intricate, rhythmically complex arrangements of original and traditional works in a Balkan style. Formed in early 2005 the band had an instant chemistry, gained a considerable following and quickly earned a reputation for their exhilarating and intense live performances. This group of incredible players force you to dance your socks off and have a great time.

Sheelanagig have played just about every imaginable venue on their hectic touring schedule; clubs, pubs, art centres, small theatres, European street festivals as well as tearing up the UK festival scene with profile slots at Glastonbury, Green Man and Beautiful Days (to name a few). Sheelanagig’s live shows have grown to incorporate aspects of street theatre, elements of storytelling and even acrobatics, it can provoke a frenzied reaction – flying drinks, mosh pits and stage invasions are hazards on a really good night. In short, expect mayhem, a lot of laughs and some great music.

Tyn Daga

Tyn Daga is a critically acclaimed trio playing local music from around the world. The West Cornwall based group has a wide ranging repertoire, encompassing lively dance tunes to haunting and moving melodies and captivating, rarely-heard time signatures. We draw inspiration from English, Celtic and Irish music, tunes from the Balkans and Eastern Med, old and new alike. We also play original tunes and songs.

Their sound features Uilleann (Irish) pipes or Irish whistles, acoustic guitar (often using alternate and open tunings), backed by a variety of world percussion and arranged in our unique style.

Jez Hellard and the Djukella Orchestra

Singer of potent songs, stunning harmonica player, guitarist and producer, Jez Hellard thrives on music of all stripes. His band, The Djukella Orchestra, play traditional and contemporary folk music, from jigs and reels to tango, rhumba, funk and reggae. From original and traditional songs to rare gems from some of the world`s greatest, if lesser known song-writers; often fellow troubadors who Jez has met in many years on the road. Jez plays with his band, The Djukella Orchestra, fiendish fiddlers Julie Rands-Allen and Alastair Caplin, the formidable double-bassist, Nye Parsons, and renowned Macedonian Accordionist, Jordan Kostov, amongst other talented players.
