Dowland Two Fantasias for solo guitar

Walton Five Bagatelles

Britten Nocturnal after John Dowland

Sean Shibe is a remarkable talent. At the age of only 24 he has a series of concerto performances to his credit as well as a spell as one of the BBC’s New Generation Artists. He is driven by an evangelistic zeal to affirm the guitar as a major recital instrument and his performances generate a remarkable atmosphere.

Sean’s programme opens with some hauntingly beautiful music by the great Elizabethan Lutenist John Dowland. He follows it with two works dedicated to the world-famous English Guitarist Julian Bream. The Britten Nocturnal After Dowland is a compelling series of variations based around Dowland’s Come, Heavy Sleep. Walton’s Five Bagatelles were premiered at the Bath Festival in 1972 and express a variety of optimistic moods from the sparkling to the languid, from the smoky to the seductive concluding with a brilliant finale.

“Played by, I believe, the finest acoustic guitarist I have ever heard, Sean Shibe” – The Herald

“… great sensitivity and with a complete focus on the music…a very special performance.” – Classical Guitar Magazine
