The Phil Beer Band

March 13, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

£15.00 – £16.50

The Phil Beer Band performs a unique blend of folk and roll trawled from Phil’s treasure trove of traditional tunes and American country rock. The highly popular line up comprises Gareth Turner (Little Johnny England), Steve Crickett (Arizona Smoke Review), Nick Quarmby (Colvin Quarmby), Olivia Dunn (Mad Dog McCrae) and of course, Phil Beer and promises to deliver a lively cocktail of folk, rock, country and blues once again this year.

Phil Beer is the multi-instrumentalist half of England’s foremost acoustic duo ‘Show of Hands’. His instrumental wizardry is well documented and has been utilised by countless artists over the years, the most notable being The Rolling Stones, Mike Oldfield and Steve Harley. He was for many years lead guitarist and singer with the Albion Band and co-wrote many of their songs. He has also made many forays into film and television music as well as finding time to produce and record albums for other artistes.

While having his feet firmly in the ‘Acoustic’ camp, he has “kept his hand in” with electric music with an annual outing of The Phil Beer Band. These have become increasingly popular, and are now packing out venues on an regular basis.

The current line-up of the band features :

Phil Beer Guitars/Fiddles/Mandolins/Vocals
Gareth Turner Melodeons
Steve Crickett Drums
Nick Quarmby Bass/Vocals
Oliva Dunn Fiddle/Vocals

The Band plays a unique blend of folk ‘n’ roll which is quite unlike any other band currently on the circuit. They cannot be pigeonholed as Folk Rock! The Guardian once described their sound as “where Steve Earle & Richard Thompson Collide”.
