The Sixteen, frequent and welcome visitors to Bath Mozartfest and Bachfest, round off this year’s Bachfest with an all-Bach programme in the unmatchable surroundings of Bath Abbey. It begins with the popular Third Brandenburg Concerto for strings, followed by one of Bach’s most joyful motets and a Latin cantata adapted from the Gloria of the Mass in B minor. Then a group of movements selected from the cantatas, including the chorale known in English as “Jesu, joy of man’s desiring”, precedes the much-loved setting of the Latin Magnificat for soloists, chorus and orchestra.
