Forgotten Black Divas: Black American Female Performers in Britain
September 18, 2014 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm£5 – £7
Professor Neil Wynn looks at the popular reception of Black American musical performers in Britain from the 1920s through to the 1950s, focussing on the success of three largely forgotten performers: Florence Mills, Adelaide Hall, and Elisabeth Welch. The incorporation of these women into the British musical world provides an insight into both British musical culture and race relations.
