Djordje Ozbolt: The Grand Detour
November 19, 2016 - March 5, 2017
Acclaimed artist Djordje Ozbolt is telling a new tale, responding directly to the Holburne’s paintings, sculpture and decorative arts, many of which were originally collected by Sir William Holburne during his ‘Grand Tour’ of Europe. By ‘invading’ the collection and grounds, these new works lead us to discover exciting fresh perspectives on the past.
Artist Djordje Ozbolt was born in Belgrade in 1967. He studied architecture at Belgrade University and moved to London in 1991, where he continued his studies in painting at the Royal Academy.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue contextualising this intervention with the artist’s latest work.
Interpreted by Jennifer Scott, Director of the Holburne Museum, Tom Hunt, Director Hauser & Wirth London, and Anita Taylor, Dean of Bath School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University. The works from the show were created during the artist’s residency at Hauser & Wirth, where further pieces will be shown in the new year.
