Courts & canals – early music from London & Venice

May 4 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

£9 – £10

Musicke in the Ayre present a tea-time treat of music written four centuries ago, but with timeless appeal, performed live at St Mary’s Bathwick by versatile mezzo Alice Simmons, with Din Ghani accompanying on a lute and archlute – both made by him, after originals from the period. Lute songs by Dowland (a name made better known a few years ago by Sting) are contrasted with early Baroque masterpieces by Venetian masters such as Monteverdi, finished off with a look at how the fabulous Henry Purcell made his mark on the London music scene by the end of 17th century.
Refreshments available before and after.
