Attacking The Devil

November 23, 2014 @ 7:15 pm

£6.00 – £8.00

Legendary Sunday Times editor is the hero of this amazing documentary about the campaign for justice over the scandal of thalidomide between the 1960s – 1970s.

Synopsis

Over 60 years ago, a new ‘wonder drug’ – thalidomide – appeared on the market, promising huge benefits. When its horrendous side-effects on unborn children emerged, no one – least of all its marketers Distillers – would take responsibility. Government ministers not only washed their hands of the matter, but also prevented the press from discussing it. Only Harold Evans, the young independently-minded editor of the Sunday Times, was determined to fight for the rights of the thalidomide victims. In this wonderful film, Evans himself reveals the details of how he, his colleagues and some brave parents fought against seemingly overwhelming odds to secure justice. It’s a remarkable and chilling story concerning the origins of this catastrophic drug.
