Alexander Balanescu WORLD PREMIERE

April 18, 2015 @ 7:30 pm

£13.50 – £16.50

icia

Weston Studio

We are delighted to present a premiere of original works created through our Artist-in- Residence programme, based in the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies (PoLIS), and working with partner institution Télécom Paristech.

The project will explore the idea that we all operate in a multilingual environment, even if we do not speak or understand multiple languages. Sounds in this environment affect and shape us, provoking reactions and experiences that actively resist the drive towards cultural uniformity.
Renowned violinist, composer and recording artist Alexander Balanescu has been a member of
The London Sinfonietta, The Gavin Bryars Ensemble, and leader of The Michael Nyman Ensemble. He also speaks five languages.

Perhaps we can consider Alexander fluent in a sixth language, and the most universal of all; music.

Steeped in the classical tradition, Balanescu studied at the Special School for Music in Bucharest,The Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, London’s Trinity College and The Julliard School in New York.
