Alberto Manguel in Bath

Alberto Manguel is one of our finest literary critics, but though a critically acclaimed writer himself, Manguel describes himself first and foremost as a reader. His lifelong love of reading began when, as a teenager working in the Pygmalion bookshop in Buenos Aires, he was asked by the blind Jorge Luis Borges to read aloud to him at his home, which he did from 1964 to 1968.

As an insatiable reader, the subject of Manguel’s new book is Curiosity, the force of human nature that what drives us forward to expand our knowledge but also the temptation that leads us into dangerous waters. Curiosity is a true booklover’s book
