Home for Writers

Bath has long been an inspiration and often home for writers apart from Jane Austen: 500 years ago, Chaucer’s Wife of Bath brought her world-wisdom to the Canterbury Tales. Terrace Wlalk, east of the Abbey, and nearby Duke St (picture) have many plaques commemorating the writers who lived or worked there: Wordsworth, Burke, Sir Walter Scott, Fanny Burney and others.
George Bayntun Down Manvers St, by the railway station, is the best place to explore for rare and antique books and prints.
