Ghost Stories

Bath has plenty of haunted places, though you should sleep undisturbed in your hotel or guest house. There are two guided tours each night in summer that take you through Bath’s spookiest streets. Check the What’s On section for details.
Sally Lunn’s cafĂ© has the ghost of a Benedictine monk, heard chanting at night.
The Theatre Royal’s Grey Lady is a mysterious spectre who has been seen wandering the vaults of the ancient building at night. No-one seems to know who she might have been.
In the Garrick’s Head pub, next to the Theatre Royal, you should keep an eye on the newly repainted ceiling. Legend has it that a mysterious red stain appears here, even after repainting. The locals will try to tell you that it’s the ghostly blood of the Grey Lady, the Theatre’s own apparition!
