Bath wrap up pre-season with a comfortable win at Jersey Reds 17-38!
Bath wrapped up their pre-season with a trip across the channel to take on the Jersey Reds.
With a few last night changes to the lineup the blue, black and white took to the field and didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard through Bath favourite Benooooo Obano after some patient pick and go’s!
Jersey were not phased by the quick start from the visitors, and hit back with a try of their own. For the first 30 minutes of the match they made life difficult for Bath. But they continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with a try through Matt Gallagher after good work by the forwards at scrum time.
Ben Spencer sniping and creating havoc was rewarded with a steal to stretch Bath’s lead and score their third try of the half in the 37th minute. Bath continued to press and when they were rewarded with a penalty they didn’t settle for the 3 points they went to the touchline and a powerful driving maul saw Niall Annett go over the whitewash and see Bath go into half with a healthy 7-24 scoreline.
After a raft of substitutions the first quarter of the half was scoreless, that soon changed when Bath’s wrecking ball Tom Dunn barrelled over after more good work from the maul with Orlando Bailey adding the extras. Dunn did go over again shortly afterwards, but Bath were adjudged to have blocked one of the Jersey players.
Scrum half Max Green back to full fitness caused chaos for the home side’s defence and was rewarded for his efforts with a nice pass from Hamer-Webb for him to go underneath the sticks. At this stage the scoreline was looking great for Bath at 7-38 but Jersey battled until the final whistle and were rewarded with two consolation tries to make the final score 17-38.
Now pre-season is done, the real work begins next Friday, in the local derby against Bristol Bears at Ashton Gate! Come on you Bath!!!
