Food Revolution Day Bath – Are we revolting enough? – Worldwide Event 19th May

“The trouble with Jamie Oliver is…” Ah, how many contemporary food-centric debates begin with those words (not least of all at British government HQ)? But regardless of your personal opinion of the once-naked chef, it has to be said: he certainly gets the nation talking.
Hot on the heels of his latest attention-grabbing antics (teaming up with Liverpool/England footballer Stephen Gerrard to urge PM David Cameron to help fight obesity in schools; very publicly taking the Coalition to task over their lack of support for healthy eating; snapping at an Australian news reporter when she queried his own apparent weight gain, etc), Mr Oliver is now aiming to quake us all out of grub-related complacency on and around Saturday 19 May, when JO’s Food Revolution Day goes global.
This worldwide event aims to bring together thousands of followers to celebrate a day of action set to inspire, educate and empower people about real food while raising money for some very good causes supported by the Jamie Oliver Foundation, a charity described by the head honcho himself as “aiming to inspire people to reconnect with food, raise awareness and individual responsibility, resuscitate dying food culture around the world and, ultimately, keep cooking skills alive.”
Okay, the cynic inside you may ask why – in these cash-hungry times – Jamie doesn’t just quietly fund the whole shebang himself. But if you take a peek at the Foundation’s website, you’ll see just how much the charity has already done courtesy of Jamie’s generosity… and how much further there is to go if the work is to make any sustainable impact at all. And anyway, food is our responsibility too – why shouldn’t we all join in?
People of Bath, we urge you to get revolting with Jamie on Saturday 19 May. Bake sales, sweetie swaps, sandwich competitions; tea parties, supper clubs, lunch soirees – what will you do to raise funds to support a scrumptious revolution that really could build a more tasteful future for all? Bath.Co.Uk and The Pig Guide are ready and waiting to support, promote and probably attend (!) your event – let us know who you are, what you’re doing and when it’s going on, and let the revolution begin.
All the website links you need to get going are just a click away. The Bath Twitterati can share ideas and spread the lurve by following (and being followed) by @FoodRevBath, and the relevant hashtags for the international event include #foodrevolution and #realfood. Come on, Bath: let’s show the world how good at being revolting we really are!
