A compelling contemporary piece, DNA by Dennis Kelly follows the silent yet intimidating, 16 year old Phil, and his fearful following of misfits as they come to terms with the consequences of a practical joke that ends in tragedy. This piece deals directly and powerfully with hard hitting, relevant issues, such as violence, guilt, unrequited love, tyranny and solidarity within a group of adolescents who have placed themselves at the edge of society.
Since the arrival of aggressive and volatile John Tate the rest of the school fears them, they are above the law and intend to stay that way. Social outcast and self proclaimed loner Adam who would do anything to be accepted into the group, to be protected, to be safe, to hang out in the woods with them for just one afternoon. How far will he go? Being spat at? Being punched? Being bullied? Being murdered? The group discover how their tyranny presents them with cathartic repercussions and social developments within their clique.
With a harrowing twist and a taste of the sinister that smacks of William Golding’s Lord of The Flies, DNA is a social comment that resounds with people of all ages.
Performed and produced by final year Performing Arts Students from Bath Spa University the company are eager to show the public what they have been working towards before they disperse and initiate their careers across the country.
