The Bridge Tea Rooms. The afternoon ritual of serving tea
has been developed to a fine art here, and is so accomplished that the
Bridge Tea Rooms has been recognized as excellent by the prestigious Tea
Guild. Put aside any notions of dangling a tea bag in a mug, and think
instead of delicate bone china, the finest leaf teas, and friendly staff
in Victorian costumes serving home-made cakes, pastries and sandwiches.
Housed in a former blacksmith's cottage dating from 1675, the Bridge Tea
Rooms positively oozes atmosphere, and the classical music playing
gently in the background sets a tranquil tone. Interesting light meals
are also served throughout the day and traditional British dishes at
night, but the famous Bridge Cream Tea and range of Afternoon Teas is
the main attraction here: expect large scones topped with Devonshire
clotted cream and strawberry preserve, and a pot of one of 30+ fine
loose leaf teas presented to perfection in a beautiful teapot. For

The
Edge of Love
showing at the Little Theatre Cinema
A beautifully drawn love story directed by the acclaimed Maybury (Love is
the Devil), The Edge of Love revolves around two feisty, free-spirited
women, Caitlin (Miller) and Vera (Knightley), Vera's husband (Murphy) and
the brilliant, charismatic poet Dylan Thomas (Rhys) who loves both women.
Broken promises, passion, betrayal, the shadow of war and the constant
threat of imminent death push the protagonists to the edge of love. The
story explores the collision of the bohemian underworld with war-torn
London, and the lives and loves of two young couples whose lives become
dangerously intertwined. For further information please telephone the cinema

On Sunday 20th July, the Avon Valley Railway once again opens its doors for
a special day to celebrate with the region’s Polish community. Avon Valley
Railway’s Commercial Services Manager explains. “One of our fleet of
locomotives is an 0-6-0 tank engine that was built in Poland in 1954. A few
years ago we decided to have a Polish Day to celebrate the engine’s return
to steam following a long overhaul. With a large and growing Polish
community in the area, the idea caught on and has become one of the regular
features in our annual calendar”. The day is open for everyone to come and
enjoy some traditional Polish hospitality. There will be music plus folk
dancing and singing from the Polish dancing team Kujawy. In addition, anyone
who comes in traditional Polish costume will travel free on the train.
Trains begin running at the Avon Valley Railway on Sunday at 11.00 and train
services also connect with boat trips on the River Avon. For more details,
please phone Bitton station 0117 932 5538.
